The journey of pregnancy from conception through birth and into postpartum is a special time in which feeling nurtured and nourished is more important than ever. As a mother sustains her child’s life in the womb, she experiences many shifts: hormonal, diet, weight, identify, and much more. Devoting yourself to a self care routine early in the process can help support your wellness. It is difficult to predict how you’ll feel through all the hormonal and life changes. Committing to your health and wellbeing is one way you can retain control during this wild ride!

Although the nine months can seem to pass quickly, we recommend scheduling one or two prenatal massages per month in the first two trimesters during your pregnancy. Weekly massage in the third trimester can help relieve any extra stress or strains you’re feeling as you move closer to the birth date. As with any massage treatment, these suggestions are if there are no medical contraindications. It’s up to you to decide how many sessions you need as you listen to your body’s signals.

Please be sure to drink lots of water before and after any massage, especially prenatal and postpartum massages.

After birth you will likely need to take some time to recover before scheduling your first postpartum massage. Listen to your body and don’t rush any activities. You may feel overwhelmed, sad, ecstatic and many emotions can move through you during postpartum. There are varying opinions on how long the postpartum phase truly lasts, but most experts agree there is at least a 6 month period of adjustment while your body transitions after birth.
